Malaysian philanthropist offers financial aid for bright students pursuing higher education

As 2016 is shaping up to be a year tougher than the last, families, especially the middle class and below, are finding it increasingly difficult to survive comfortably due to increased living costs and highly depressed salaries.

Thankfully, there are kind souls such as local investor and philanthropist Koon Yew Yin who contribute back to their communities in large and beneficial ways.

koonThe Octogenarian is co-founder of mega building corporations Mudayaja Sdn Bhd (now IJM Corporation) and Gamuda Sdn Bhd.

Koon (pictured) wishes to reach out to bright, hardworking students whose families or selves are financially strapped, with the Koon Yew Yin Scholarship.

Aside from providing full financial help to all Malaysian students regardless of race and who intend to pursue foundational studies at any of the local universities here in Malaysia, the financial assistance may also extend to those whose Degree courses cannot be fully covered by their PTPTN loans.

To apply, students need to fulfill the following:

i. Be a Malaysian citizen
ii. Have a combined family income of below RM 4,000
iii. Score at least 5 As for SPM

If your application is successful, you will receive the Koon Yew Yin Scholarship, which will fully cover the costs associated with pursuing a one-year Foundation Course at any local University or College.

Interested parties can contact Koon’s wife – do include a short introduction of yourself and clearly articulate your reasons for requesting for financial assistance.
